Liberate RVA would like to invite you to a Freedom Gathering at The Clockworks Collective! With fall semester right around the corner, what better way to enjoy one of the last few weekends of summer by going to a Zine Fest Party!
Mark your calendar for the 18th of August 2012, Saturday, should any of these activities interest you!
Community Potluck
We’re starting the fun at 6 p.m. with an omnivorous potluck! This will also be a BYOB (sweet Port will be provided). So please do bring a dish or drink to share.
Zine Making Activities
This event will definitely be going on well throughout the evening and into the night. If you would like to share your crafty zine at the Richmond Zine Fest, we would be more than excited to share your zine at our Liberate RVA table in October. Children should come before it gets dark to work on zines, because we would love to compile each child’s work of art on the subject of “freedom” and share it with the community, too, at Zine Fest. Remember, zines can be about anything you can imagine!
Children Activities
During daylight hours, most of the activities will be focused on providing a fun atmosphere for children. There will be a lot of activities with prizes handed out, as well as a kiddie pool, sprinklers, relay races, and games. The first movie to be played on the movie projector will be a PG friendly movie. We’d love to hear any suggestions if you have them regarding the movie selection.
Live Bands!
Come watch some live music with us! We’re excited to be hosting several awesome bands at this month’s Freedom Gathering: Old Table, Aeon Yahweh (with your favorite local musician, Jean Baptiste), and Darb Modnoc will be performing. Possibly more!
After Dark Events
When it gets dark the fire pit will be lit, and other fun selections of outdoor movies will be playing. And once everyone has settled in around the fire, get ready for some awesome action performed by your local talented artists to include: sword dancers, firemancers, belly dancing, and much, much more! Children are still welcome of course!
But most importantly, let’s get to know one another; this event is really all about creating a community. We’re also collecting donations for the Richmond Zine Fest to help offset the cost of setting up and running the event. Your community would greatly appreciate any amount of donation, from loose change to bills.
So invite your friends! Anyone who values the non-aggression principle and wants freedom in our lifetime can join, too!
P.S. Come by an hour early if you would like to have a personal introduction in understanding what this freedom movement is all about.

About The Clockwork Collective
The Clockworks is a growing collective of individuals, comprised of artists, musicians, photographers, mothers, fathers, lovers, philosophers, computer geniuses and mad scientists. We strive to live simply, that we may simply live…we seek to learn and preserve old homesteading knowledge and practices. We try to live as off-the-grid as possible. We also encourage creative expression, through music, dance and performance, art of all sorts, photography, and intellectual and philosophical pursuits. We maintain a safe and wonderful environment for the children of the collective, who use the world around them to learn new things every day, and are active community members.

About The Richmond Zine Fest
The Richmond Zine Fest is an annual event at which local and national (and perhaps even international if we’re so lucky) zinesters can gather to sell and trade their zines and network with other people in the zine community. The zine fest is not just for zine creators and distros. It’s an open event for all ages with tablers selling zines as well as other DIY items, informative and fun workshops throughout the afternoon, and good times, food and conversation in general. This event happens on the 6th of October, Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
